SEO Suite Settings Helper

SEO Suite Guide

SEO Suite Settings Helper

Use this guide when a setting looks important but you are not sure what it changes. The goal is simple: understand the field, choose a safe value, and avoid changing settings just because they are visible.

What the helper is for

The small question-mark buttons inside SEO Suite are field-level helpers. They explain the exact setting you are looking at, show examples, and point to a larger guide when the topic needs more context.

Every helper should have its own ID and tag. That makes the help easier to reference in support tickets, screenshots, and internal QA.

Important: helpers are explanations, not rules. A good setting is the one that matches the real site, the real page type, and the real workflow.

How to read a helper

  1. Look at the helper ID and tag so you know which setting the explanation belongs to.
  2. Read the first paragraph to understand what the field changes.
  3. Check the example output, but treat it as a starting point, not something to copy blindly.
  4. Compare the suggestion with two or three real pages on your site.
  5. Change the setting only when it solves a real problem or makes the SEO output clearer.

Title template examples

A title template is changed when you want all SEO titles for one type of page to be generated differently. The default pattern is usually:

%title% %sep% %sitename%

That can become:

  • Schedule - Lab SEO Suite
  • Contact - Lab SEO Suite
  • Pricing - Lab SEO Suite
Strong brand first

%sitename% %sep% %title%

Use this when the brand name is more important than the page name.

Local service site

%title% %sep% Athens %sep% %sitename%

Use this only if almost every page in that group truly targets Athens.

Online store

Buy %title% %sep% %sitename%

Useful for products, but wrong for normal pages like About or Contact.

Blog posts

%title% %sep% Blog %sep% %sitename%

Useful when the site has many sections and you want articles to be clearly marked as blog content.

Safe rule: if you add a word to a template, that word can appear on many pages at once. Add only words that are true for every page using that template.

Indexing and archive settings

Indexing settings decide which pages deserve search visibility. Archive settings decide whether category, author, date, or post type archive pages should follow the general rule or get their own rule.

Common safe patterns

  • Posts and pages: usually index, follow.
  • Internal search results: usually noindex, follow.
  • 404 pages: usually noindex.
  • Date archives: often noindex, follow because they repeat existing posts.
  • Author archives: useful on multi-author sites, often weak on single-author sites.

Noindex is not privacy. If content must be private, protect it with real access control instead of a robots directive.

Attachment pages, redirects, and URL cleanup

WordPress can create separate URLs for uploaded media. Many sites do not need those attachment pages indexed because they are thin image-only pages.

  • Redirect attachment pages when they do not contain unique content.
  • Use noindex when the page can stay visible to users but should not appear in search.
  • Use redirects only when there is a clearly better destination.
  • Keep query cleanup conservative: allow only useful parameters and clean tracking noise.

For stores, some filter parameters can be useful. For blogs, most query parameters are just noise.

Site verification fields

Verification fields are for webmaster tools such as Google Search Console, Bing, Yandex, Baidu, or Ahrefs. Paste only the token value the provider gives you, not your account login and not the full HTML tag unless the field explicitly asks for it.

If Google Site Kit already handles Google login and verification, you usually do not need to paste a manual Google verification token in SEO Suite.

When not to change a setting

  • Do not change a field just because it looks empty.
  • Do not copy examples from another site unless the same reason exists on your site.
  • Do not add city, product, or brand words to broad templates unless they fit every page affected.
  • Do not turn on advanced automation until you know what it will run.
  • Do not use SEO settings to hide private data.

Quick checklist

  • The setting has a real purpose on this site.
  • The example matches the page type you are editing.
  • The change will not accidentally affect many unrelated pages.
  • The wording is true for users, not only attractive for search snippets.
  • You know where to check the result after changing it.
